The Ladder

By definition Dream and Illusion are sisters,

Grown from the same Root

Thoughts Images Possibilities

Yet their branches stretch in opposing direction,

Turning their backs on one another

A rift so deep, they will never meet

For the ones so brave

to bring a ladder

and climb up to see the world below

To delight in the endless reach of landscape

Both Dream and Illusion will hold you in their branches

Securely, to your surprise

and show you the light you search for

But which branch have you chosen to sit?

The answer is not in the view before you

Close your eyes

Listen

Listen from your chest

from your belly

your throat,

your feet

forehead

Listen to every cell within you

If what you hear is a hum

So clear and crisp

Two identical music notes

Waves in sync

Dancing gently against each other in perfect time

Stay.

And open your eyes

Anything else,

Climb down.

But no matter what,

Don’t take the ladder away
